Lazy Sunday

Today has been a rather uneventful, but delicious day. Woke up latish to have a tasty breakfast of Finn Pancakes made by Ryan. Extra tasty with some fresh cut strawberries for topping. Afterwards we settled in to watch The Secret of NIMH on DVD, as we were both having long ago childhood yearnings to see the film again. I would have to say that NIMH is much darker than I remember it being, and it is still perpetually being marketed as bright and sugar sweet Disneyesque fare, which it most certainly is not.

After that was over we grabbed some fresh pita bread and hummus for an afternoon snack/lunch and watched the first episode of the new BBC series Sherlock. Sherlock was a very surprising watch, with the content updating to modern setting extremely well, and the whole production being spot on. I especially like that BBC has bucked modern TV trends of forever shortening shows to make room for ads. In the case of Sherlock, the first episode was an hour and thirty minutes long, of actual engaging and intelligently written story. One part that pulled me out a bit, was the seemingly intentional riffs from the recent Sherlock Holmes movie’s soundtrack, other than that I’m completely sold.
As for the rest of the day, I am going to begin running again today, or at least limping about for an extended period of time in running clothes and shoes. I took some inspiration from Neil Gaiman and his recent post about losing 25lbs while exercising to Dickens’s Bleak House. I’m going to try the same approach, but instead of Dickens I’m going to give George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones a shot instead. Especially since the audio book was free as part of my one month trial with Audible.com. Also I’ve noticed I could probably shed close to 25lbs myself if I really wanted to, though I’m not stepping up to the scale quite yet, I just want to see my own qualitative results first before obsessing over a number. I feel soft, and slow right now, and look a little… droopy. My goal is to shed the weight so I’m trim and happy for the wedding this summer. I think that should be sufficient inspiration, along with just actually giving a crap about my own well being.

So if you want to follow along, hopefully this endeavour will turn out better than some other promised blog posts. Though I do have several Criterion Posts ready to go, just haven’t gotten them posted yet. My running, if things still work properly will be updated after each outing via twitter and my Nike running app.
